Losing Streak Broken in Orland

Sunday, March 26, 2023, Civic Center, Orland Park, IL

My string of bad luck ended Sunday in Orland. The Orland show is like a great starting pitcher who can regularly break a losing streak. I love the Orland show!

I arrived a little after 8 a.m. which is really good time for me. I was quite proud of myself until my pal Kevin asked why I was so late. I pleaded that I was early but to no avail. I did finish setting up prior to the opening bell of 9 a.m. Ha!

Anyway, I brought out all of the binders and two display cases. I decided to place in the cases the cards I could not get out last weekend in Rosemont which included all of my basketball and hockey stars. I priced a few more 1970-71 Topps basketball stars as I just completed reloading the binder. That 70-71 binder ended up with three near sets. You can see Rick going through it in the picture above.

I had a feeling the new basketball would bring out old friend Dave Frazier, who loves old basketball cards. It was great to see Dave, my first time seeing him this year. Dave likes high grade and, unfortunately, none of the basketball was high grade. Dave did find some high grade hockey. Thanks Dave! Come back soon!

Next up was my pal Andy, who purchased all sorts of cards. We got to talking about the cloud of reefer hanging over Rosemont last weekend due to the Tattoo show. Man, that place stunk like skunk. It was foul. I had to deal with it all three days, even while loading out. Some numbskulls sat in a car behind mine puffing away like Cheech & Chung.

Back in Orland, my 1978 Topps baseball binder got a good workout with a long-time customer finding a nice pile. A newish customer, who is working on White Sox sets, found a bunch as well. Another White Sox set builder pulled all sorts of cards, including a bunch of 1961 Post.

Where were you guys last time? There was a light crowd at the Orland show two weeks ago. On this day, the place was jammed packed. It was near impossible to walk the aisles. I was busy, hustling from one end of my tables to the other. Sales came fast and furious. Did I say I love the Orland show?

Gil purchased a nice pile of 1958 Topps. Several new customers purchased cards. Many regulars purchased cards as well.

Good buddy Paul P. was back in action. Paul found a random 1951 Bowman that he purchased for a co-worker. Many folks purchased cards, and, of course, I can’t remember what I sold. I do know that Will was the big winner, he purchased a pile of 1972 Topps football.

On the buying front, I picked up a 1967 Topps Roger Maris. I also obtained 20 or so non-sports cards from the 1960's, I think they depicted Navy Seals or something similar. I have never seen them before. I do like the old non-sports cards.

A really great day. As always, props to Rich and his crew for running another stellar show.

As you can see, I am a little behind on my blogs. Oak Creek blog coming soon. Next up for me is the Rockford show on Saturday, April 8, at the IBEW Local 364, 6820 Mill Road, Rockford, IL. I plan on bringing out all of my baseball and football binders. If you would like to see something else, let me know.

See you Saturday in Rockford!

Below are a couple more photos from the Orland show.
