Light traffic but overall good show

One of the smallest crowds I have ever seen at the Orland Park show. Though, many folks were saying that the previous show, the one I skipped for Milwaukee, was even worse.  I heard all sorts of theories throughout the day of why the show was so sparsely attended. Which brings me to my top ten reasons why the crowd was so light:

    (1)  Kids had multiple baseball tournaments,
    (2)  Customers stayed up all night to watch the White Sox lose in 14 innings,
    (3)  Customers were too hungover,
    (4)  Still cleaning up from Tuesday's storm,
    (5)  Yard work,
    (6)  Graduation party,
    (7)  Didn't want to get yelled at by bald-headed guy or John Leary,
    (8)  Spent all their money at the Sears white sale,
    (9)  Volunteering at neighborhood soup kitchen,
    (10)  Saving their money to spend with me at the Schaumburg show on July 3.

Even with the light crowd, I still had quite a few sales.  Dave picked up my 1939 Play Ball Lefty Gomez, which I had all of four days, and some 1949 Bowman baseball.  Rick grabbed my book of 1970-71 O-Pee-Chee Hockey along with some 1972 baseball high numbers.  Terry also purchased some 1949 Bowmans. Quite a few regulars pulled out a great deal of commons from various years in the 1960s.  I sold a 1961 Post Roberto Clemente to another regular.  Chris picked up my 1966 Topps Pete Rose. Another regular purchased a large amount of 1963 Fleer baseball while another regular picked up some 1961 Topps commons to send out for autographs.  A semi-regular customer purchased a nice pile of 1968 Topps baseball. Another customer, who I haven't seen in a long while, picked up some 1958 Topps White Sox. Another regular purchased some 1973 Topps baseball. I sold quite a few 1972 Topps baseball high numbers. A new customer picked up some 1970's football.  A few guys spent a lot of time going through my books but came up empty handed.

Many purchases were also made by me including a large lot of 1977 Topps baseball, some 1973 Topps team checklists, near sets of 1973 Topps and 1971 Topps baseball.  A nice group of 1973 Topps baseball high numbers.  A great group of 1950 through 1953 Bowman baseball.  Some mid-1960's football and some random 1960's baseball stars.  I also purchased a few autograph photos from the Rolf, the dealer who had the tables next to me today.

Detroit's Mark Smith, an excellent vintage dealer, kept me entertained all day.  I also enjoyed when Brad shouted to me across the room at the end of the show, telling me to leave.  Overall a good show. I was out the door by 2:15 p.m., which was a little unusual.

Next week is Schaumburg.  I'm not expecting much out of a small show on Fourth of July weekend but you never know.  Rick said he might stop by so I'm going to price a pile of cards he might like.  I also should finish my update of my 1974 Topps baseball book. I have a pile of 1981 Topps football that I've been meaning to price and bring out.  If there is time, I hope to get to those.  I'm also just about ready to update my supply of 1950 Bowman baseball.

It's the last week of the quarter at the day job so I'll be pressed for time this week.  I would like to get some cards up on eBay. Hopefully, I can free up some time.  I've been picking up piles upon piles of cards between the card shows, eBay and other online auctions. So I'll have quite a few fresh cards for each show in July.  Overall June was a little slow in the card sales department after a May that was absolutely on fire.  I'm looking forward to July with the two Orland shows, Gonzaga and my July 3 show at Schaumburg.  Many cards to buy and sell!
