Another Great Show in Milwaukee

Terrific show today at Gonzaga Hall in Milwaukee.  I was busy from start to finish. Mark bought a bunch of football. Jim bought some 1955 Topps. Steve was snapping up my Ernie Banks cards. Jason picked up quite a few 1972 high numbers. Another Jason picked up a nice 1967 Topps Hank Aaron for his son. I sold quite a few graded cards which has inspired me to start stocking a lot more graded.  I generally prefer raw cards but if customers want graded, I'll start picking more of them up. As one customer told me, he feels more comfortable buying grading because he knows exactly what he is getting. Though, I'm not so sure because I don't think grading is an exact science and the graders are bound to make some mistakes.  I would think at a card show you would rather have raw because you can pull the card out and analyze it yourself instead of relying on some surfer dude from Newport Beach grading and who has no stake in the transaction.  My friend Willie pulled out my 1956 Banks PSA 6 and started picking out all sorts of flaws. After Willie's analysis of the card, I think it was overgraded. I think the grading companies want you to think it is safer buying graded cards but I suggest trusting your own observations in buying both raw and graded. Though, I've definitely learned in the past two months that graded cards sell and I need to stock more of them. Right now I'm running one display case of graded. I need to bump it up to two.

I didn't buy much today. I picked up a small pile of 1970's basketball including a nice 1970-71 Oscar Robertson.  A guy came by my table with a 1986 Fleer Michael Jordan in a thick screwdown holder.  I said thanks but no thanks.  I'm pretty sure that card is the most counterfeited card in the history of the hobby and I won't buy it from anybody I don't know well. A few dealers told me about a guy shopping early 1970's basketball sets but he didn't come to my table.  From what I heard, he wanted too much money.

Former Packer great Jerry Kramer was at the show signing autographs. I would have liked to have gotten his autograph but I couldn't leave my table.  I did get to see him walk in the show, which was pretty cool. Overall, another terrific day in Milwaukee.  It is shame I have to wait entire month for another Milwaukee show.  I'm not doing any shows next weekend because of father's day. The weekend off should give me some time to restock by books.  I'm going to start restocking 1974 baseball this week. I have some 1970-71 OPeeChee Hockey that I have been looking at forever. I need to get those priced and in a binder. I also have some 1981 football to do.  I'll be at Orland Park in two weeks.  Quite a few Orland dealers chose Milwaukee today over Orland.  I wonder how the Orland show was today. Milwaukee was terrific. I love Milwaukee!!
